The research project seeks to investigate the role of the age-associated shifts of the intestinal microbiota on aspects of mucosal and systemic immunity and the inflammatory status in ageing. Further, based on our previous study we commend the idea of further investigating the impact of the microbiota-gut-brain axis on the microglia cells, the immunological component of the CNS in ageing.
