All PhD candidates of the XXXVII cycle who have completed their three-year program are required to email the Coordinator, Prof. Vincenzo Sorrentino (vincenzo.sorrentino@unisi.it), with a copy to Mr. Pierpaolo Sartini (pierpaolo.sartini@unisi.it), the following materials by January 15, 2024:
- A PDF copy of the thesis signed by both the candidate and the tutor.
- An abstract of the thesis in PDF format.
- A presentation report (or medallion) of the candidate in PDF format, including a brief description of the work undertaken during the PhD program, signed by the candidate and the tutor.
Additionally, candidates must provide the names of two external evaluators, who should be university professors selected based on the tutor's recommendation, to be proposed for the committee’s approval. The materials listed above must be submitted to the specified email addresses no later than January 15, 2024, in order to be fully approved by the committee and formally sent to the external evaluators for potential admission to the final discussion.
After reviewing the thesis, the evaluators are required to submit their comments, suggestions, and/or requests for revisions by February 28, 2024, along with their reasoned opinion regarding admission to the final discussion.
Candidates have until March 15, 2024, to finalize the thesis and/or adequately address the observations made by the external evaluators. This is the final deadline for resending the revised thesis to the evaluators.
The external evaluators, upon verifying the adequacy of any requested modifications, must provide their definitive opinion on admission to the final discussion by March 22, 2024.
The final thesis discussion will take place either in the second half of April or the first half of May 2024, allowing for a two-week notice period to enable candidates to prepare and for committee members to review the theses.
The final thesis discussion will be held at the Scientific Campus of San Miniato, University of Siena.
In the event of a reasoned negative opinion from the external evaluators regarding admission to the final discussion, the candidate must revise their thesis appropriately and present it within six months of the scheduled final discussion date (second half of October / first half of November 2024). Please note that both the thesis and the medallion must be written in English.
