Presentation of the Doctoral Program

The PhD Course in Molecular Medicine encompasses disciplinary areas involving different aspects of modern biological and medical sciences. It is characterized by a broad multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary nature. The PhD Course in Molecular medicine is the result of the merger of the Doctoral Schools in Molecular Medicine and in Cellular Biology and Pathophysiology, and of the input of faculty members from the Doctoral Schools in Medical Biotechnology and in Physiology-Pharmacology-Molecular and Cellular Toxicology. The main purpose of the PhD Course in Molecular Medicine is to train highly qualified PhDs, possessing the cultural and technical skills necessary to pursue studies in the biomedical field. The main educational objectives of individual students will take into account the scientific interests and expertise of the faculty members who belong to the Course Board, with a view to providing a broad and interdisciplinary scientific culture. Research and teaching activities are organized in such a way as to encourage interaction and exchange of information and expertise between students and faculty members from different scientific fields. PhD students will be able to develop research projects using biochemistry, genetics, molecular and cellular biology methodologies with a focus on pathogenetic mechanisms of human diseases and related clinical issues. The PhD program is organized in three years and is a full-time activity. During the three years of the course, PhD students, in addition to acquire knowledge about the most current problems in biology and medicine, will also acquire the ability to independently design and develop their own research activities. The opportunity to conduct study and research stays in Italian and foreign University and non-University centers, and in private industrial facilities will enable the students to increase their chances of entering the world of work in both academic and industry fields. Every year, the PhD Day is held, a day entirely dedicated to the presentation and discussion of the doctoral students' scientific activities
